I have the same problem. I have an iMac G4 which does not have a DVD drive, only a CD drive. How do I upgrade the OSX 10.3 system to OSX 10.4? I only have a new MacBook Pro as a second machine. Can I use the DVD in the MacBook Pro and start up the iMac G4 using the 'T' key, then install on the iMac G4?
Mac Os X 10.4 Tiger Install Dvd (ppc)
Many thanks for the advice which I followed and managed to install OSX 10.4. I then updated to 10.4.11 and reinstalled all my printer drivers, etc, so that it is all working well. I ran the disk utility just to ensure that all was well after installing.
Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger uses less memory than Leopard, supports Classic Mode on PowerPC Macs, and, unlike Leopard, is supported on G3 Macs, so there are good reasons to install or reinstall it on your old Macs.
You will need either a retail version of 10.4 or a upgrade 10.4 if you have 10.3. You can also use machine specific (gray disks) made specifically for your machine (beware of the gray disks made for other machines with the exception of the gray eMac disks which install on all the machines. FastMac carries all these disks:
Dear Users, I have spent days trying to install leopard and think this guide is extremely good but I have a bit of a problem. on step 9, every time i type in the command "dev / 1s", the mac then replies with "unknown word". I have also tried reversing the slashes and when i type "dev \ 1s" the mac replies with "can't find device \ 1s, unknown word". i have no idea why this is happening and would appreciate help from anyone who wishes to give it.Thank you.iMac g5, 1.6GHz, 768mb ram, Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger
Seems to be working for me now: the 10.5 installer is running on my G4 tower. I set up a USB drive with nothing on it but the 10.5 ISO, so there were no partitions, so I needed "ud:,\System\Library\..."I thought there might be a simpler way, considering that I already had 10.4 running -- some way to say "next time, boot from the USB drive" -- but I haven't found such a way.In the meantime, I've learned about the existence of Open Firmware, started reading about it, and learned that it's a domain-specific dialect of Forth (who knew?!)
Great post, many thanks. It was a real lifesaver. I had inherited an early model G5 with Tiger (10.4) and a single layer DVD drive. I managed to track down an ISO image of Leopard but couldn't figure out how to install it until I found your post.A couple of clarifications that may help others:Step 4: Drag the DMG file if that's what you have. (This may be obvious but I'm a Mac noob, so wasn't sure).Step 7: You want the partition for the destination drive (the one you copied the image to in Step 4). The instruction in the original post is a little confusing.Step 9: You'll see a long list. I had to go to the second page in the list to see my device. The root of the path was much longer than "ht" (something like "ht03,f2000000" - sorry, I didn't write it down). You have to use the entire string. In the example, "disk@2" is a child of "usb@b" - it will appear nested under usb@b in the listing (the example makes it look like it's at the same level).Step 11: The first dir command only shows you the top level path. The second example is the one you want to use. After installing Leopard, run Software Update to get further updates to the OS and other Apply software on your machine (Safari, iTunes, etc.). You may have to run Software Update a couple of times. to get everything. Thanks again. My Mac is very happy to be getting this update.
Ooh my GAWD. I am SUCH a noob to all things Mac. I bought this li'l PPC or G4 thing, as you guys call it. I call it an old-as-hell, boxy white thingy, pre-intel that hopefully will help me teach myself the basics of Mac before I drop $4K on a whole system. It is a little difficult to run Logic and Final Cut Pro on this computer with 10.4, so I upgraded the RAM and still nothing. Then I needed to upgrade OS's - um - how the HELL do you squeeze 6G on a DVD? Windows is not real keen on dual whatever - as far as I have experienced, so I needed to boot form USB. YOU SAVED MY LIFE, well saved a lot of headaches, at least. You sure as hell made things a lot easier. I did not even know what a "node" was in the instructions, but they were so well written and concise with examples, it made it virtually impossible to screw up. I am booting up and installing 10.6 as we speak and will be a Mac Diva before long. Thank you SO much. You really do not know how much I appreciate the amount of time and revisions it had to take to make such an excellent tutorial. Bravo!
Please help and sorry I don't understand some of it please don't throw a rock at me.I don't see anything but pci@2000000 then I see /usb1b then see /disk1is my ud pci@f2000000/usb@b1/disk@1I am sorry to ask but I don't know what my " UD" is and I don't have "ht" anywhere either.when I type "devalias pci@f2000000/usb@b1/disk@1 " I get no aliasI am new to this and trying it from usb flashdriveI have imac 1.2 ghz 512mb no disk drive that works I have 10.4.11 installed trying to go to 10.5 if I left anything out you need to know ask me.
Suppose you received an old MacBook from a friend and want to give it a new life. You are trying to download Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 ISO files. So that you can install it on my old MacBook, but you are having trouble finding a reliable source.
For installing the operating system on an old Macbook, these Mac OS X Tiger Powerpc ISO files can be used to create a bootable DVD or USB Flash drive. so In this article, we are sharing the mac os x tiger 10.4 ISO download link and mac os x tiger 10.4 retail DVD dmg file download link in a single post.
I also shared the mac os x tiger VirtualBox and VMware iso image link for those who want to install macOS x tiger on VirtualBox.The size Mac OS X Tiger intel PowerPC ISO file is just over 2.63GB. For fast downloads, you can use the internet download managerSoftware.
Office 365 Mac version does not support the Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 ISO operating system because it is old. If you wish to use Office on the MacOS X Tiger operating system, you can install Office 2003.
To install Mac OS X Tiger CD ISO OS on your old Macbook, you have to create a Mac OS X Tiger bootable USB flash drive. With this flash drive, you can install mac OS X Tiger 10.4 ISO operating system on your Macbook.
Installing Mac OS X 10.4 is easy for users of Mac OS X 10.2 and Mac OS X 10.3. These systems can be upgraded directly. However, users of earlier versions of Mac OS X, up through to version 10.1.5, require a more complete installation.
I created the .dmg from a the retail 10.4.6 disk and continue to burn bootable DVDs from it with no problems. Just right click on the dmg (in OSX of course) and select burn to disk. It is important to note that most older Macs cannot read DVD+R discs. If installing on an older G4 you need to either use an external drive, find some DVD-R discs or use the four CD set.
I had uploaded this ISO a few times here, and somehow it kept getting deleted and replaced with the .dmg that was up. Many times people have posted on Reddit that there is no working 10.4.6 install image, and instead of dealing with it, I would send a link to a MediaFire upload I made of it. Yesterday I consulted with fogWraith and decided to just fix the one on the Garden by deleting the .dmg (with permission from fogWraith) and replacing with the fresh ISO extract I made.
I have removed the 10.4.6 dmg file, and replaced it with an original ISO extraction from a retail DVD. ISO files are the preferred file format of OS install media, as .dmg files require a Mac to use, and cannot be burned to a DVD and booted from easily, or all the time, reliably.
If you want to use PDP on Mac OS X 10.4/Tiger or 10.3/Panther, you will need to install X11 (X11 comes installed with 10.5/Leopard). It comes on the install CD/DVD that your computer came with. For more detail, see How to install X11 in OS X
You can also download an old version of X11 from -x11-on-tiger-without-the-tiger-install-dvd/ . After installing this, you will need to run Software Update... from the Apple menu in order to get the most recent version. If you don't run Software Update..., it will not work.
You need to download the right installation file from the Inkscape download page. Note that this page has a separate version for Panther (10.3.9 only), and Tiger (10.4.x) and above. The Panther version is PPC only, while the Tiger version is Universal Binary, meaning it installs on either older PPC or newer Intel Macs. The Tiger version will also work on Leopard (10.5.x)
You can install X11 from your original Install Disc 1. Scroll down the Finder window which opens when the DVD is inserted; double clic "Optional Installs"; go through the license agreement and destination selection; on the "Custom install" page select Applications -> X11 and deselect everything else; hit Install. To see what this looks like, see Jesse Andrews' article entitled Installing X11 on OS X 10.4 Tiger).
The macOS X Tiger 10.4 ISO file is a disk image file that can be mounted and used as a regular disk drive on any Mac computer with the Mac OS X operating system installed. The ISO file can be burned to a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM and used in the same way as the DMG file. 2ff7e9595c
